Tokaj (Tokai)


Great Synagogue - there was a small synagogue in Tokaj built in 18th century destroyed by fire in 1890. In place of this destroyed synagogue there was built big synagogue between 1896-1897. Its designer was famous architect Lipot Baumhorn. It is located at Serhaz Street (near Jozsef Attila Street)

At Jozsef Attila Street is located also a prayer-house near the Great Synagogue. Still active around 2002. It is a small building, a former Hasidic Beth Hamidrash house before the war. It is ornamented with Star of David
